Poverty Bay, who won the Barry Cup from Wairoa a month ago, lost the trophy in the first challenge match today, Wairoa regaining possession after a rugged forward game by 10 points to 7 Poverty Bay had the advantage in the first spell, Tureia potting a goal and Dennis scoringan unconverted try. while Beckett for Wairoa potted a goal just on half-time. In the latter stages of Hie second spell the Wairoa forwards dominated the home pack by dribbling, and passing rush«i. Walker scored from a scrummage, and T. Nepia from a line-out. G. Nepta collided with another player, and had to leave the field early in the game.
