WAIRARAPA POLO CLUB’S BALL.

The Wairarapa Polo Club’s annual ball, which was held in the Anzac Hall, Featherston, last week, was a brilliant success, and easily holds pride of place in the list of similar gatherings held in the Wairarapa. Under softly-covered lights, in a ball-room which lends itself admirably to decoration, a brilliant and effective scene was represented, in which a gay company mingled. All the decorations were carried out in the club’s colours, red, yellow, and green. Lycopodium, tree ferns, bamboo foliage, and nikau palms formed the main decoration in the hall, from winch were suspended artificial flowers- and streamers in red and yellow tints. At athe entrance were two

goal posts, and arranged on two walls polo sticks and ball. The club’s mascot, a horse’s head, on a mount, occupied a prominent position. In the bridge room, tree ferns, lycopodium, and other greenery, autumn berries, and leaves, with yellow lamp shades, formed a quiet corner for the bridge players. The lounge decorations were on similar lines, more use being made of autumn berries and leaves, as well as greenery for cosy corners. The supper room decorations were particularly effective. A huge sunshade was suspended from the centre of the room, with dark red and yellow streamers running from each point to the walls. Dark red and yellow shades enveloped the lights, and on the tables brass candle sticks and Oriental vases, with autumn berries and leaves were arranged with charming effect. Mr. D. C. Collins capably carried out the duties of hon. secretary, assisted by a strong committee. The supper-room decorations were carried out by Mrs. R. N. Barton and Miss N.
