FULL CAR BUT INJURIES SMALL

Christchurch, May 3L A serious accident occurred at 5.15 p.m. on Saturday, when a motor-car, driven by Stanley Walker, of Christchurch, collided with the ChristchurchSouthbridge train at Prebbleton crossing. There were four adult passengers, two children, and two infants in the car at the time. Mrs. Lucv Gamble, of Grafton Street, was "the only passenger to receive serious injury. She _ was taken to the Christchurch Hospital . suffering from concussion of the brain. The driver’s left leg and body were severely bruised. The driver did not hear the warning whistle, and, thinking that the line was clear, prepared to cross it. However when a few feet from the line, he saw the train, and immediately applied the brakes. The car swerved, but the driver could not clear the train, and dashed into the rear of the engine, and the car was smashed to pieces. . The injured were conveyed to Lincoln in the guard’s van. . Mrs. Gamble’s condition is now improving. The others have returned to their homes.
