STATE-OWNED SHIPPING
RESPONSIBLE FOR ENORMOUS LOSSES. London, May 26. Before the International Parliamentary Commercial Conference, Sir Frederick Lewis read a paper in which he s- dwelt on the enormous losses through State ownership of shipping, instancing the United States, Australia and Canada. He declared that Governments should not embark in commerce. He moved a resolution declaring that the true basis of international commerce was the freedom of the seas, accompanied by equal opportunity for the' ships of all nations in all ports. The resolution was carried.—Rentez.
