WATER HYACINTH
AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT WARNING. The Director-General of Agriculture (Dr. C. J. Reakes) states that a complaint has been received by the Department that a plant known as the “water hyacinth” is being introduced into the Waikato, and sold as an ornamental flowering plant of the water lily species. Dr. Reakes states that it is desired to discourage the distnbution of the plant as far as possible, in view of the fact that it is likely to develop into a most harmful and expensive weed.
