OBELISK MONUMENT
FOR CAPTAIN HOBSON’S GRAVE By Telegraph.—Press Association Auckland, April 9. The crave of Captain William Hobson, R.N., the first Governor of New Zealand, who died on September 10, 1842, and was buried in the Symonds Street Cemetery, is to be marked by a suitable memorial. The grave _ at present is marked bv an ordinary headstone. The Department of Internal Affairs has decided to call tenders for the erection of the grave of an obelisk monument which will form a much more fitting memorial to a man who holds an honoured position in the history of New Zealand.
