Mr. J. W. Card has been returned unopposed as Mavor of Featherston. Mr. Card lost his office a few’ days ago owing to the fact that the legal firm (Messrs. Card and Lawson), of which he is a partner, had had business relations with the Borough Council Mr. Lawson appeared at Court, and. received money on behalf of the council, and it was held that, though Dlr. Card had had no actual connection with the matter, he as a partner was involved. Senator Sir Henry Barwell, who was Prime Minister of South Australia from 1920 to 1924, is a visitor to Wellington. He is visiting New Zealand partly on private business, and partly to look into certain matters at the request of the Commonwealth Prime Minister (Dlr. S. DI. Bruce). Sir Henry will leave for Christchurch and Dunedin tonight. Mr. T. Elliott, who has been on ■ a visit to England, returned by the Corinthic yesterday. Dlr. R. Jameson returned from a trip abroad by R.DI.S. Corinthic yesterday. He was accompanied by Dlrs. Jameson. Captain Keith Cameron, of the Falkland Islands, arrived on a visit to New Zealand by the Corinthic yesterday. He was accompanied bv Ladv Anne Cameron. They joined the mail steamer at Colon. Commander S. Hall, a one-time officer on the China Squadron of the Royal Navy, arrived bv the Corinthic yesterday on a visit to the Dominion. Mr. Charles Adair, of Gisborne, is a visitor to Wellington. Dlr. E. A. Shrimpton, late chief telegraph engineer, has left for the south on a deer-stalking expedition in the western ranges of the Southern Alps. Messrs. W. J. Jordan, W. E. Parry and A. J. Lee, Df.P.’s, joined the limited for Auckland at Marton Junction last night. Mr. S. Burridge, for many years in charge of the fellmongery department of the Gear Company at Petone, latterly farming near Taihape, and wellknown in trotting circles, has taken up his residence at Lower Hutt, with Dlrs. Burridge. Among those who left by the Auckland express last night to join the Aorangi for Vancouver were Sir Harold Beauchamp, and Dlr. F. W.. Furkert, engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department. Dlr. R. H. P. Ronayne has been appointed district engineer, Public Works Department, Wellington, in succession to Dlr. J. Hanna, who has assumed the duties f inspecting engineer at the head office of the Department. Dlr. Llewellvn Gwilliam, who is leaving by the Ulimaroa to-day to catch the Oronsav at Sydney, has been delegated to represent the Welsh Society of Welington at the National Eisteddfcyl in. Wales, or anv kindred societies in Wales or Britaii.

Dlajor-General Sir Andrew Russell, of Napier, is a visitor to Wellington. The members of the staff of the State Advance; Cilice made a presentation to DI- W Fiscoe or Tuesday evening on the occasion of his severing his connection with the Department. Dlr. Pascoe has accepted an executive position with the Goldberg Advertising Agency, and when asking him to accept a suitcase as a token of esteem, the accountant (Dlr. Robertson) expressed the Department’s appreciation of the zealous and efficient service of the recipient and also the general regret felt by all at the severance of the happy associations of the past few years. He assured Dlr. Pascoe that the heartiest good wishes of all went with the gift.
