HELPING BRITAIN
THE GOVERNOR’S ADVICE
Bx Tblegeafii.—PaEss Association
Feilding, March 26.
Speaking at the civic reception today, His Excellency the GovernorGeneral (Sir Charles Fergusson) said the Mother Country was going through a difficult period, and New Zealand could help her by absorbing some of the surplus population without flooding the Dominion with people who would eventually drift to the towns. He appreciated the Flock House scheme and hoped it would be extended. His Excellency recommended afforestation as a means of employment, -and providing the Empire with the timbers which otherwise would be very .-carce later on. Further help could be offered Britain by preference for British goods after local manufactures. Pointing out that our imports were too great as compared with our exports, His Excellency urged the advisableness of saving for a rainy day.
