STABBED IN THE SIDE
ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER MAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL By Telegraph— Ph ess Association Dunedin, March 26. Janies Patrick Reid was charged at the Cromwell Magistrate’s Court, before two Justices, with attempting to murder George Adams at Makarora by wounding him in the stomach with a butcher’s knife. According to the evidence, Reid and Adams had been to a cricket match together and had had a few drinks, though Adams said they were both sober. Adams attempted to double-bank Reid back to the flaxmill where they worked, but owing to the rough nature of the ground they continually fell off the machine, and Reid started to knock the bicycle about. Adams remonstrated, and Reid took offence, and endeavoured to hit him and went along by himself. Adams met him again at the cookhouse, and Reid continued his aggression, threatening to blow Adams up. Adams later left with a companion for his hut, and while they were there they heard a noise, and Adams opened the door and was stabbed in the left side by Reid, who told him that he had “got” him, and that he had aimed for the heart. Accused was committed for trial. Bail was fixed at £3OO and two sureties of £l5O each.
