ELECTRIC POWER FAILURE
CAUSED BY PIECE OF WIRE

In the Magistrate’s Court, a young man, C. Stratford, was brought before Mr. Stout, S.M., charged with wilfully throwing a piece of wire over a hightension electric wire at Kiritaki. ♦
Counsel for the Public Works Department said the case was brought as a warning that people must not interfere with the Mangahao power wires As a result of the defendant’s action, the power had"been temporarily shut off. *7
Defendant explained that while crossing the Kiritaki Stream with a bicycle, a piece of wire caught- in one of the wheels. He removed it, and threw it into the air, and it lodged on the electric power line. Had he known that the wire would cause danger, he would have informed the Power Board. He was convicted and ordered to pay the cost of repairing the damage—£3 —and also the Court costs, 15s. An application for the suppression of his name was refused.
