POLICE AND CIVIL CASES Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with the police cases in the Magistrate s Court yesterdav • For a" second offence of drunkenness, James Maddock was fined XL Pleading guilty to a third offence oi drunkenness, Thomas Hughes was convicted and fined XI, the amount of ins bail , . William Bruce was fined 10s. for a second offence of drunkenness. George Errol Coates, aged 24, and Constance Lavinia Riddle, aged 28, who pleaded .guilty to the charge of obtaining the sum of Xl5 5s from the Otago Finance and Agency Company, at Dunedin, by pieans of false pretences, rs both convicted and remanded until this morning for sentence. For assaulting Arthur Augustus Edwards, Charles Grieve Robertson was fined X 4, and ordered to pay witnesses expenses, amounting to XI 95., in default 21 days’ imprisonment.
