CRICKET IN KILBIRNIE

PRAISE FOR THE WICKET. The following letter of appreciation from the Kilbirnie Cricket Club was tabled at Thursday’s meeting of the City Council:—“l desire to convey the apprecirition of tho Kilbirnie Cricket Club for your kind act in removing the -wicket, whicli was the obstacle preventing senior games being played on Kilbirnie Reserve. We are very grateful for your assistance, as without your assurance that the wicket in question would not ho played on when senior games were in progress, the Wellington Cricket Association would not accede to our request. It is with pleasure that lam able to inform you that bnth outfield and wicket reflect great credit on the efforts of the custodian, Mr. Dobson. The first match has just been finished, and although 600 runs were registered during the two days’ play, little or no signs of wear could be detected. Every member of the Thorndon eleven speaks verv highly of the wicket, .gnd go so far as to say ‘that it is better than any in Wellington, with the exception of that tn the centre of the Basin Reserve which is of Napier soil.”
