Sir 1 rederick Whyte’s term of office in India expired six months ago. That he was chosen for such an office at the age of 37 was a tribute to his personal.and political attainments. He intends to remain in New Zealand a month, seeing the country and gaining all possible first-hand knowledge of its political affairs. He hopes to meet Cabinet Ministers and also members of the Round Table Group. —Press Assn. Mr. Richard Woodman, of 85 Gliuznee Street, died last week, in Ins eighty-third year. The deceased, wha was for many years a member of the Wellington Bowling Club, had sheepfarming interests, at Durville Island He had been in poor health for a couple of years past. Mr. D. K. Blair and Mr. B. Jukes, Wellington delegates, will leave for the south to-morrow night to attend the meeting of the Dominion Yachting Council, which will be held at Dunedin on Thursday evening to fix affairs in connection with the Sanders Cup contest, which begins on Dunedin Harbour the following day.

Hughes is on his way to Australia, having been engaged to play in the new musical comedy, “Rose Marie. Mr E. Yaldwyn, manager of the Commercial Bank, will leave Wellington on March 1G for London, via Sydney and Suez. Phillips, of the Rourke Street West branch of the Commercial Bank, will take charge of the Wellington branch. Mr E. Caradus, B.Sc., who has been annointe'd inspector of secondary schools, has had a wide secondary school ’experience in. the teaching of mathematics and science. He left there in 1913 to take charge of the Auckland Grammar School science department, and since 1922 he has been first assistant at Nelson College, with charge of College House. He has been on .many occasions a member of the executive H the Secondary Schools Association, and was president of the Secondary Schools Assistants’ Association from 1922-23. He is at present teachers’ representative on the Secondary School Teachers Anneal Board. Dlr. Caradns’s headquarters will be in Wellington. Mr. Gilbert Dalglish, who has been promoted to be senior school inspector at Nelson, where he has been assistant to Mr. Pitcaithlv for some years, was born on Banks Peninsula and received his primary education at the Akaroa Borough School. He became headmaster of the Timaru Main School in 190 G and held this position until 1919. During that time he was acting inspector for several periods, both ; n South and North Canterbury. He has had a wide and successful experience of all branches of, school work, in the training of pupil teachers and of assistants, and in gaining scholarships.. JHe was closely associated with the Timaru Educational Institute and the Timaru Technical School for many years,, occupying the position of president of both institutions..
