AEROPLANE CRASH
SECOND VICTIM SUCCUMBS. Sydney, February 12. Observer W. S. Callendar, who was on the Defence Department aeroplane which crashed at Canberra, has succumbed to his injuries The machine was specially overhauled bv the mechanical staff at the Richmond Aerodrome before the flight. A trial flight showed that the engine was missing in one cylinder. This defect was remedied, and the machine left Richmond apparently in perfect order. After the crash a man ploughing in the vicinity rushed to the scene, and removed Callendar, just as the machine burst into flames. The body of Flving-Oflicer P. M. Pitt, who was killed instantly, was badly burned. Little was left of the ’plane.—Press Assn.
