ENGINEER’S CERTIFICATE
An attempted fraud By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, February 13. An unusual charge of attempting to obtain a certificate under the Inspection of Machinery Act by fraud, by representing that he was in the employ of the Mataraata Cheese Factory from May 5 till November 20, 1925, whereas up to August of that period he was employed at the Wanganui Railway Workshops, was brought against a young man, Thomas Price, at Hamilton to-day. B. Barnes, manager of the factory at Mataraata, was charged with giving Price a false testimonial of service. Defendants pleaded guilty. It was shown that while on holidays Price assisted in the boiler-house of the Matainata Cheese Factory, and Barnes gave a certificate to assist Price in securing a billet.
The Magistrate, Mr. Wilson, said defendants had put their heads together to get Price a certificate falsely. It was serious for an unqualified person to get a certificate by faud. Each defendant was fined £5 with costs.
