NGAHAURANGA GORGE ROAD
OFFER TO MAIN HIGHWAYS BOARD The first important step towards the reconstruction of the Ngahauranga Gorge road was taken yesterday, when the Makara County Council decided to make an offer of £12,000 to the Main Highwavs Board on condition that it takes over the road and reconstruct it from the Ngahauranga Gorge to lawa Flat. The chairman (Mr. E. Windley), who moved the motion, said that the council realised its responsibilities in • the matter and was now .in a position to do something. “The worst portion of the road from Porirna to Wellington is the Ngahauranga Gorge,” he added. “I think it should be attended to first, as far as urgency is concerned. There is no doubt that our by-roads are not receiving the attention they require. Th. by-roads are being used more mid more every day by motor traffic, and it is necessary that we should look ahead and see’ that we keep them up to the mark as far as is possible.”
