The damage to the Palais Picture Theatre at St. Kilda, Melbourne, by fire, is estimated at £35,000.
Speaking in the House of Commons, the Foreign Minister, Sir Austen Chamberlain, said that he Was watching the conferences between France and the Soviet, which, he hoped, might facilitate a revival of conversations between Britain and Russia.
<As a result of a cyclone between Townsville and Cardwell, Queensland, 10 to 14 inches of rain are recorded for 24 hours. Much of the rurrounding country is covered by six inches to two feet of water, and the Herbert River is rising rapidly. Railway traffic is held up owing to washouts.
