OUR CROWDED STREETS

PARKING PLACES AND BUSES Before motor-buses were running on the streets of Wellington there was considerable complaint about the restriction of the parking-places in mid-city, ana since the buses have come that trouble has been accentuated. One of the most central and popular parking places for private cars for the last year lias been Mercer Street, between Victoria Street and Jervois Quay, where may be seen a line of cars at any time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., each one backed into the kerb. This street is now the start-ing-point for the buses running to Eastbourne and Johnsonville, and the Publie Librarv side has been made a park-ing-place for eight buses. I hus there is only left a narrow lane for the ordinary traffic of the street, which is not inconsiderable at times. It is suggested that a bette* startingpoint for the buses would be in Jervois Quay, opposite John Chambers and Sons’ warehouse, where tnere is a 100foot street that gives plenty of room to manoeuvre.
