Mr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P., and Mrs. Rhodes left Wellington for the north by the Limited last night. The Minister of Education (Hon. Sir James Panj left for Auckland yesterday. He will speak at the unveiling of the Northcote war memorial on Sunday. Sir George Eliott, chairman, of the Bank of New Zealand, arrived in Wellington by the Limited from Auckland yesterday morning. The Hon. F. J. Rolleston,. Minister of Defence, will leave to-day for Auckland. Ou Saturday be will open a new bridge over the Waikoukou River at Waimauku, 26 miles north of Auckland. That afternoon he will attend the Muriwai sports, and will return on Saturday night to Auckland. On Sunday afternoon he will unveil a soldiers' war memorial at Northcote, at which ceremony the Minister of Education (Hon. Sir James Parr) will also speak. •On Monday Mr. Rolleston will be engaged in Auckland on departmental business. He will probably leave Auckland in the evening fo, Wellington. Sir Bertram Mackennal, the famous sculptor, is a passenger on the Otranto, says a Press Association cable from Perth. After spending a holiday in Australia he will proceed, to. New Zealand.

The Minister of Lands notifies in the ,'.izette that His Excellency the Gover-nor-General has been pleased to appoint the following gentlemen members of the Tongariro National Park Board: Sir James Gunson, Mr. W. 11. P'ield, M.P., Mr. Wm. Salt, Mr. T. A. Blyth, and Mr. Alex. G. Simpson. Sir James Gunson’s appointment is till January 16, 1929. All the gentlemen-mentioned are at present members of the board. Captain Ducoux, of the French warship “Cassiopee” called yesterday morning at the German Consulate to return the visit which the German Consul, Mr. Penseler, paid on board the “Cassiopee.”

At middav yesterday Captain Decoux, of the French sloop Cassiopee, made a formal call on the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. J. Rolleston). At 3 p.m. the Minister returned the call, and was received with a salute of 21 guns. The Premier of Victoria (Hon. J. Allan) yesterday called on all Ministers of the Crown in town.
