SOUTHERN INTERESTS DESIRE DIRECT ROUTE.

Delegates representing the fruit and manufacturing interests of the South Island discussed to-day the Question "f a direct trade route from the Islands to the South Island. Several suggestions were made, as to how back loading could be. guaranteed, tourist traffic and temperate climate fruits being mentioned ns factors. It was decided to ask Mr. Collins. secretary to the Industries Department, to interview the Hon. W. D. Stewart, asking him to confer with theUnion Company and the Fiiian Government. Following this a delegation will confer with the Minister.
