WAHINE'S EXCURSION TO PICTON
ON ANNIVERSARY DAY.
To-morrow, for the first time for a number of years, tho lini on. Company’s fast turbine steamer Wahine is announced to make a day excursion to Picton. This is a very good opportunity for those who have not time to spare for a longer trip, to see some of tho beauties of Queen Charlotte Sound, and tho long arm known as Tory Channel. Among the points worthy of note on tho trip are the bold entrance to Tory Channel, with its swelling tides, the old whaling station at To Awaiti, and tho present trying-out stations, the site of the former Maori pa on Kaihinu. Point, and tho adjacent Noioio Island, and the Ion" view of the sound, both ways, on debouching from Tory Channel. At Picton, where nearly four hours are spent, there is plenty to interest tho visitor, including, beautiful short walks to the Reservoir. and to Shakespeare Bay. Tho Wahine will leave Wellington at 8 a.m.. and Picton again on return at 2.30 p.m., the trip each way taking under three hours, of which only H hours aro spent in the open strait.
