NURSERYMEN'S INTERESTS
CONFERENCE OPENED AT DUNEDIN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, January 20. The nineteenth annual conference or New Zealand nurserymen opened tins morning, fifty delegates being P? es< ; nt - After a civic welcome the conference was opened by the Hou. G. J- Andeison, who promised to refer the question o State competition with nurserymen in the sale of trees to the Minister of Agriculture. Mr. Anderson paid a tribute to the work of Sir Francis Bell and Sir Heaton Rhodes in connection with torestry. He suggested that until deer were eliminated altogether the New Zealand forests were in danger of destruction. The president, Mr. T. D. Lennie (Christchurch), in his address, contended that the fact that the. successful nurseryman was the small man was a strong argument against Government competition. Ho expressed the opinion that in some lines a decrease in the prices of tr’es should be made. The new president is Mr. ihonias Waugh, of Lower Hutt.
