MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS AT LEVIN

OPENING CEREMONY.

Levin, January 20.

The Lerin municipal buildings were opened by Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., this afternoon. Among those present were tile Mayor of Levin (Mr. T. Hobson), the Mayor of Foxton (Mr. Pcrreau), borough councillors of those places, representatives of the Power Board,’ Fire Board, and Horowhenua County Council. The visitors were entertained nt tea in the lounge after an inspection of the offices and theatre. The Mayor of Levin expressed pleasure at the completion of the building, which he described as evidence of the growth of the town and confidence in its future. The Prime Minister sent a letter of apology for nonnWendancß, stating that he cordially appreciated the honour of the invitation, but found it impossible to accept. Mr. Linklater complimented the borough on the fine building, and expressed confidence in the future of Levin, also of the country with a strong Government. Speeches were also made by the Mayor of Foxton, by Mr. Keedwell for lhe building committee. Mr. G. Cateley for the County Council and Power Board. Mr. G. C. Cray for the Fire Board, and Mr. Bennie, the architect. The buildings cost £29,400, and include a block of administrative offices for the three local bodies centred in Levin—the Horowhenua County Council, the Horowhenua Power Board, and the Levin Borough Council. Another feature "is a modern theatre to seat 1000 people, with a la.'ge social hall, five shops, and several offices.
