London, January 14. It is understood that there has been no further development in the matter of arranging the next Imperial. Conference. Some of the Dominion Governments have replied to the Imperial Government’s inquiry as to what time will suit their representatives to come to London, but further communications must pass before any decision is reached. * As regards the suggestion that the conference might be .held iiwjune, in view of the fact that elections are pending in several Dominions and Parliaments in others will be reassembling about that time, it is considered more likely tliat the conference will be held about October, perhaps even later. — Reuter.

It is learned that the majority of the Dominions have now replied suggesting dates for the Imperial Conference. Cabinet’s task is now to choose a date inflicting the least inconvenience on the overseas Premiers. There is little doubt that the meeting, will be arranged for the autumn. It is expected that all the Dominions will be represented bv their Prime Ministers and other Min-isters.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. EMPIRE TRADE NEED FOR INCREASING BRITAIN’S EXPORTS • London, Januarv 14. The Federation of British Industries lias forwarded a letter to Mr. Baldwin pointing out the urgent need for increasing Britain’s export trade with the Empire above the present proportion of 41 per cent, of the total. The view of the federation is that any expansion must proceed pari passu with an increase in the Dominions’ purchasing power, with which. the. marketing of Dominion produce is indissolubly connected, because a larger sale of. Dominion goods means greater Dominion purchasing power here. . The letter inquires when the Ministry will announce its decision on the Imperial Economic Committee’s two reports of August last, in which two of the Empire’s most pressing problems were dealt with.—Aus.-N.Z.
