WELLINGTON MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.

The Management Committee of the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association met Last evening. It was decided io enter a challenge for th? Wilding Shield, the date io be fixed later. It was considered that »» c<lington’s prospects of winning the shield looked particularly bright, as a sc ection would bo made from the tollowing players:—J. C. Peacock, E. D. Andrews, N. 11. C. Wilson, E. W. B. Smythe, L. France, and R. It. T. Young. The question of playing later provincial championship tournaments on hard courts was spoken of recently, but after discussion the matter was passed on to the New Zealand Council for final decision. The council, however, has now replied, stating that the matter of playing on hard courts in such cases is out of its jurisdiction. The association’s courts at Miramar will be opened on January 21, at 2.30 p.m., by the Mayor. A team, comprising four men and four ladies will play in the interprovincial matches against Hawkes Bay at Palmerston North, on March 6. lhe players will be selected after the provincial championships have been decided. Although the Wanganui and Taranaki Associations hav« -written asking for the dates on which matches will be played, no definite dates have yet been arranged. . ... Notwithstanding the fact that very few defaulting members have been reported by the constituent clubs of late, the committee decided to take action from now on concerning all those who are in arrears with thrir fees.
