EIGHTH SANDERS CUP TRIAL

PEGGY WINS EASILY The Peggy had an easy victory by Imin. SBsec. from All Black in the eighth Sanders Cup trial, sailed yesterday evening in a fresh north-westerly breeze. Using her usual jib, the Peggy finished 3min. Blsec. in front of the Wellesley, which had defeated her narrowly in the exciting 'finish of the seventh trial on Tuesday. The course led from the starting line between Clyde Quay and Taranaki Street wharves to the Rakanoa, in Kaiwarra Bight, and back. From the start, the three boats commenced their windward beat to the Rakanoa, Wellesley beginning best. That boat stood out on the port tack, while Peggy and All Black chose the starboard, standing well in to the western shore. Peggy was first about, doing well on the port tack, and at this stage was sailing faster and pointing higher than All Black. Wellesley went about on the starboard tack, but Peggy weathered her easily. Wellesley carried on well in to Pipitea Wharf, All Black accompanying her, while Peggy stood out on the port tack. Peggy had now gained a good lead from the others, and reached the Rakaroa 2min. ahead of All Black, and Brain. 23sec. ahead of Wellesley. Spinnakers were out very smartly indeed, and then commenced the long run before the wind to the finishing line, Peggy going on to win easilv by Imin. 33sec. from All Black, and 3min. 51sec. from Wellesley.
