PALMERSTON TOURNAMENT CONCLUDES

miss McFarlane wins LADIES’ SINGLES k — ' Palmerston NorthTJanuary 14. The Palmerston North Tennis Club’s Tournament was concluded to-day. The attendance was not quite up to expectations. Owing to the heavy rain last night the courts were heavy and play did not commence until eleven o’clock, but it was continued until a late hour this evening. One of the principal events was the final of H.e ladies’ championship singles between Miss McFarlane (Auckland) and Miss D Nicholls (junior girl champion oi the Dominion), the former winning a hard fought game 6—2, B—6. At the conclusion of the tournament Dr. Barnett, the club president, presented the prizes to the successful competitors. Messrs Griffiths (president of the Auckland Tennis Association), and Lbwrv (of Hawke’s Bay), on behalf of the plavcrs, congratulated the officials on the' excellent management.
