Yesterday morning what looked like a funeral procession was seen in Central Park, on one of the paths converging to the “lake.” Six boys, three on each side, were (lie “bearers,” but the burden they bore turned out io be not a ■ orpse nor even a stretcher but a. homemade pontoon, consisting of a decking w'i.Ti six kerosene tins secured to the under side. When the raft, after laborious transport, was launched, the air in the tins gave sufficient buoyancy to support the captain and crew, which consisted of one bey all told. The other boys and girls formed a wading escort, and the absence of official interference seemed to imply that their naval operations are considered safe. Needless io add.
