A Press Association message from Sydney states that the stallion Moabite hiis been sold for 9000 guineas, an Australian record for an untried imported sire. Moabite is a five-year-old by Phalaris—Whitewash, and last season in England out of six starts was first past the post three times, twice third, and once unplaced. He won the Nottingham Spring Plate (1| miles), the Abbeystead Plate (1+ miles), and the Packington Plate (1J- miles).

Another little geyser has broken out near the mouth of the Utahina, at Rotorua (states an exchange). Last Friday morning it was sending up shots 30 feet in height, and in the afternoon was steaming merrily. The Simpson geyser has established itself as a constant thermal favourite, while Pohutu is still active

Some good catches of fish are being made in the Selwyn River this season (states the "Lyttelton Times”). On a recent night a sixteen-pounder was landed by Mr. L. R. Brunton, the representative cricketer, in what is known to anglers as the No. 2 Selwyn. The fish is of the brown trout species, and was caught with a big fly.

A Christmas tree festival for 1400 poor children of Auckland was given bv the Auckland Rotary Club at the Majestic Theatre (states the "Herald’’). Workers arrived at eight o’clock in the morning, and had a busv time sorting and arranging toys. A suitable picture programme was the first entertainment for the children, and the distribution of toys from the Christmas tree followed.

Otago has added another fascinating exhibit to its store of treasures (states the Dunedin “Star”). This is a germinating cabinet lent by the Dunedin Seed-testing Station, which shows various kinds of seeds in the processes of active germination. Installed a few davs ago, the cabinet is at present little better than a show case of seeds, but a few more days wi'l show a big traasformafion.
