NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS

WOMEN IN LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

Sydney, December 26. The Government intends to appoint three or four women to the Legislative Council when Parliament resumes on January 12. Although Cabinet has not yet come to a definite decision, it is proposed that a Bill shall be brought down in the Legislative Council to abolish that chamber forthwith.

It is officially announced that the Governor (Sir Dudley de Chair) has no intention of resigning, as he acted as he did in connection with the Upper House appointments on the advice of the Colonial Office. Both Houses of Parliament have adjourned until January 12. The Legislative Assembly passed the Constitution Amendment Bill enabling women to be appointed to the Upper House. —Press Assn.
