MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of iho Eastbourne Borough Council was held last night. There were present tho Mayor (Mr. H. M. Jones), and Councillors H. J. Levy, S. IT. Jenkinson. Andrews, 11. Black, Holmes, and 11.I 1 . J. Laing. Tho town clerk (Mr. J. F. Menzies) reported that a start had been made with tho groyne work between Hinau and Kauri Streets. At Kiosk Point the heavy weather experienced during the last week-end had slightly affected some of the groynes. The work on the new cricket pitch promised to be an exceptionally good job. No. 1 tennis court had been top dressed with Araoa Coldpliat as on experiment. . Previous top dressing nnd patching of the municipal courts was considerably damaged by two days of heavy rain. During tho month some person or persons unkr "v’’ emptied two barrels of tar that were stored alongside tho tennis courts. , A to. 1 of 3405 passengers were carried to the bay on Labour Dav, as against 4332 last yenr. Tho fire on the s.s. Muritai on November 8 was repaired at a cost of only a few shillings. The 'Mayor gave as his considered oninion when dealing with a letter from the Wellington Automobile Club, that there should lie uniformity of speed limits throughout the whole of New Zealand. At present there wore so many different speeds authorised by local bodies that motorists did not know where they stood. Tn his opinion the Eastbourne Council should advocate strongly- a uniform rale of speed within borough limits. This matter will ,be brought before a conference of municipal officers nt Dunedin next February. Councillor E. A. Dawson, at present visiting England, forwarded an album of views of Eastbourne. Sussex, which ho accepted from Str Charles O’BrienHnrding (Mayor of that corporation), on Behalf of tho Mayor and Imrcosses of Eastbourne. Now Zealand.
