LOCAL BODY BORROWING
Consent to the - raising of loans by several local bodies is given in an Order-in-Cottncil issued last night. The .South Canterbury Electric Power Board heads the list with 4167,000, which is to bo borrowed for electric works purposes. For the • improvement of streets and footpaths the Matamata Town Board intends to raise .£20,000. and the Thames Borough Council will be seeking a similar sum. representing a further portion of a loan of .£98,000 authorised to be raised for sanitary works. In respect to a number of other local bodies, which have already received permission to raise loans, formal notices appear indicating that the rate of interest to bo paid may not exceed 6 per cent.
