SUPERIORITY OF THE LOCAL PRODUCT
Niven and Co. have manufactured three hot-mix plants this season. One each of 500 and 750 yard capacity of the stationary type, and one portable plant of 1000-yard capacity, the largest in New Zealand; and last season they built and installed one for the Hastings Borough Council of 400-yard capacity. This plant averaged 95 per cent, over its rated capacity during the whole of last season. The undoubted excellence of the workmanship and design reflects the highest credit on Niven and Co., and the delivery of three plants in fourteen weeks should set at rest any doubts which may have existed as to the ability of our New Zealand engineers to successfully compete against the world as manufacturers of plant of this nature. Inspection of any of these plants in action is all that is required to convince any city, borough, or county engineer that there is no need to go to America or elsewhere for a “hot-mix” bituminous concrete plant, as better goods are built in our own country. So they may secure efficiency with economy by supporting local industry in the selection of plant for road-making.
