THE LEADERSHIP OF LABOUR

A WORKING MAN’S ADVICE. Sir.—Now that the elections are over, I suppose we will soon have our old friends the Labour Party back in the House again, but I would like to strongly advise them first of all to elect a new leader. As long as the Labour Party have the present leaders their name is “Mud.” Myself a working man, and one who works from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days in the week, I .will for one not stand for their present leader or their antics. As soon as they cut out about half a dozen of so-called candidates, such as they had standing in their interests this election, the better for them. I voted for a Labour man myself this election, but would rather cut off my right hand than vote for some men they had standing. This man was a fair-minded and fair-thinking man, and one who had no time for strikes or half the Labour platform, and one who won many a Reform supporter’s admiration. Now, Sir, if Mr. Holland got out himself and a few more I could mention and let a right and fair-minded man take up the reins, so much the better for the Labour Party. No fair-minded working man, it does not matter what trade or profession he is at, objects to working 48 hours a week. As I said, I work from 6 to 5 seven days in the week, and have done so for the past ten years, and suppose I will for tlie next ten, and I don’t go around digging up strife and looking for strikes.

So. Sir, as soon as the Labour Party “takes a tumble” and elects a new leader, and get a more fair-minded lot of men standing for their candidates and interests, the better they will be. I sincerely trust vou will find space in vour valuable paper these few lines, and that it will be the means of bringing other working men to express their’views on this most important subject, that is ofc- great interest and concern to all workers.—l am, etc., AUSTRALIA. Takaka.
