KELBURN NORMAL SCHOOL
RESIGNATION OF PRINCIPAL. At the Education Board meeting yesterday, the resignation of Miss W. G. Maitland, principal of the Kelburn Normal School, was received. Miss Maitland was selected in 1915 for the position of infant mistress in the Teachers’ Training College here by Professor Findlay, of the Manchester University Department of Education (in which she had been for several years) at the instance of the local education board. In making her appointment considerable doubt had been expressed as to the suitability of a. woman head teacher for such a large school, but she had thoroughly justified the choice in every way, and had set a new’ standard of efficiency in her work, and had especially developed the Montessori and kindergarten classes without in\ any wav disregarding the higher standard work. All who came in contact with Miss Maitland agreed that she had done exceptionally fine work throughout. Tie moved that the board place on record its appreciation of her work and revret at losing her services. Mr. J. J. Clark seconded the motion, and expressed the highest appreciation' of the manner in which Miss Mnitland had carried out the control of the school. The motion was endorsed by the members.
It was pointed out by the secretary that Miss Maitland had Been authorised to spend £5O nn pictures for the schools during her trip Home, and she had spent £l5 more out of her own/funds. If was decided to refund the £l5.
