FIRES AT GREYMOUTH MUCH DAMAGE DONE By Telegraph.—Press Association Greymouth, November 17. A six-roomed cottage owned and occupied by S. Mclvor, was totally destroyed by fire at Runanga at 9.30 this morning. Mr. Mclvor was working at a mine, Mrs. Mclvor had left for Greymouth shortly before the outbreak was discovered, and the four children were away at school. There is a small amount of insurance on' the house, but none on the furniture or the piano. Carpenters’ tools, valued at £3O, were also destroyed. A fire at 1.40 this morning at Tate’s boot shop and the Bristol Piano Company, Tainui Street, caused considerable damage to stock by water and to the rear of the buildings by flames. Mr. Tate estimates his loss beyond the insurances as heavy. The insurances are: £BOO on the stock, £4OO on grindery, and £lOO on the cash register. Mr. Lymons owns the buildings, which are insured for £l5OO. The fire spread to Lymons’s millinery showroom and damaged the stock to the extent of £5OO, which is covered by insurance. The damage to the piano shop is slight. Be prepared. See that you have adequate insurance on your house and furniture. Consult the Mercantile and General Insurance Co. Ltd., Panama Street.
