ANGRY SCENE

IN NEW SOUTH WALES PARLIAMENT

THE CORNSACKS CASE AGAIN

ONE MEMBER REMOVED FROM CHAMBER

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Copyright (Rec. November 17, 11.5 p.m.) Sydney, November 17.

Trouble arose in the Legislative Assembly to-day when Mr. Connell (Labour) asked whether, in view of the finding of the Royal Commission in favour of Mr. Dunn (Minister of Agriculture) in the cornsacks case, the Premier would take steps to recommend that Mr. Bavin should pay the costs of the commission.

Mr. Fitzpatrick interjected: “That is different from what you said to me about Mr. Dunn last week.” Mr. Connell: “You’re telling a deliberate lie. I said nothing about Mr. Dunn.” , , Mr. Fitzpatrick demanded that Mr. Connell should withdraw the statement that he was telling a lie. After argument, Mr. Connell did so, and demanded in turn that Mr. Fitzpatrick should' withdraw the reflection on him.

The Speaker ordered Mr. Fitzpatrick to withdraw his statement, but Mr. Fitzpatrick declined. Disorder followed, and on the Speaker’s order Mr. Fitzpatrick was removed from the Chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms. Mr. Bavin said he had made no charges against Mr. Dunn. He had stated certain facts requiring inquiry on oath. He said he adhered to everything lie had said. Mr. Dunn, speaking with feeling, said, he had received no apology. Mr. Bavin had not had the manliness to say Jhe was pleased he (Mr. Dunn) had been exonerated. Mr. Dunn argued that Mr. Bavin had in his speech implied that he had received some remuneration or compensation for himself out of the deal. (Angry roar of protest from the Opposition benches.)

Mr. Dunn continued to make further accusations against Mr. Bavin, amidst uproar.

Mr. Bavin broke in: "You are making absolutely mad statements'. The man is not responsible for what he says, Mr. Speaker.” Mr. Bavin asked that he be permitted to make a statement, but the Speaker disallowed this, saying Mr. Dunn was only replying to a question and could do so in any way he wished. —Press Assn.
