SYRIAN SITUATION
STEADILY GROWING WORSE BIG FRENCH ARMY NEEDED " TO RESTORE ORDER (Rec. November 17, 9.15 p.m.) London, November 16The Damascus correspondent of “ Ihe Times” says the situation in Syria is steadilv growing worse. Unless something is speedily done, the wave of rebellion will sweep the whole country. Banditry has assumed an organic character, and is directed by the Druses, who are daily gaining new adherents. The correspondent doubts whether forty thousand troops which France proposes to send will be sufficient to cope with the situation. He estimates that at least sixtv thousand will be required to restore order, and adds; “The French Government must send a proper army to deal with the situation or make peace with the Druses. _ There is no middle course.”—“The Times.”
