TERRACE GAOL MYSTERY
INQUEST THIS AFTERNOON
An inquest will be held on the body of William'Hayden at the Terrace Gaol at 3 o’clock this afternoon. Deceased, as reported in yesterday’s Dominion, was found dead in his cell at the prison shortly, after 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Yesterday was' a busy day at the gaol. Besides Sergeant AJartin, of the Mount Cook police, who is handling the case, many officials -interviewed Air. J.' C. Scanlon, the governor, concerning the matter. For just on an hour in the morning a consultation was held between*police and others, all of whom told a Dominion interviewer that they could not possibly account for the man’s death under such circumstances. An inmate was securely fastened at the prison yesterday, placed in the same position as Hayden was on Saturday, and asked to try and free himself. Fight as he would this could not be donef the test only going to make the tragedy more mysterious than before.
