ISLAND BAA' CHAMPIONSHIP. A chill wind, which ruffled tho siiyfaco of the sea, and the blue, sky above, were tho weather, conditions which prevailed for tho official opening of tho Island Bay Swimming Clubs season on Saturday afternoon. Ibe ceremony was performed by Mr. It. The president of tho club, Mr. Dicker, after outlining the ctulTfc activities, expressed tho wish that there would 'be that necessary co-operation on tho pair of all members conducive towards a successful season. ~ Mr. Wright said ho hoped .that the forthcoming gala for the raising, of money for a pavilion would be a success. ’ He had great pleasure m declaring tho seison opened. A scratch competition of life-saving was then held, tho winning club being Maranui.
