SHOW CASES RAIDED ATTEMPTED THEFTS IN MID-CITY A thief or thieves made a raid last night on some show cases outside two city shops. In both instances the goods were apparently left untouched through the vigilance of the police. A big "island” show case in front of Mr. Herb Price’s establishment in Willis.. Street was attacked, the locks being wrenched off, but the frequent patrolling of the vicinity by Constable Bruce apparently interrupted the raid, for a careful examination of the stock by an employee failed to disclose the loss of any goods. A similar type of show case in front of Eowlds shop in Manners Street was also forced open, but here again apparently no goods were taken The thief was evidently disturbed by the approach of the constable on the beat, in this instance Constable Hercock. As the attempted thefts took place late in the evening the streets were nearly empty. The broached show cases at each shop contained a large quantity of men’s valuable wearing apparel, and a good haul was seemingly contemplated.
