MASTERTON SEASON CLOSES

PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. By Telxgeath—special Correspondent. , Masterton, November 15. The official closing of the season was observed bv the Masterton Golf Club on Saturday, when members were entertained bv their respective presidents (Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Williams) at afternoon tea. in the golf house. . At the conclusion of a mixed foursome, won.bv R. Hodgins and Miss Una James, members assembled for the presentation of prizes won during the season. Before handing out tho trophies. Mr. Williams expressed tho pleasure of the club in this year having provided the New Zealand amateur champion, and to mark their appreciation members had subscribed to a presentation to Mr. Horton, which took the form of a handsome canteen of cutlery. Troubles for the season were awarded as follow:— Medal competition, R. D. McGregor; silver medal (ladies), Miss R. Murray; Kebhell Cup for the best scores m the handicap medal play, Mrs. A.. B. Lalfour: junior chaninionship (Indies). Miss A. Perry: four-ball competition. IT. P. Hugo and R. McKenzie; olub challenge shield. 18 holes record. T. H. Horton (76); president’s challenge trophy. J. Kerr; Lansdowne Challenge Cup (handicap bogey). Miss E. Rolficsen; bronze medal. Mrs. P. Gordon: B grade, junior (ladies). Miss E. Waddington: Mrs. R. McKenzie’s trophv (most reduction in handicap), Airs. G, Elliott: club championship, T. IT. "Horton: net aggregate and hogov competition. IT. F. Coom. Minor trophies were won By Mrs Lawrence, A. McKay, J. Lawrence, and H. G. Moser. MIRAMAR CLUB. The final for the Tree-planting Cup (presented by Mr. Stuart Wilson), and also a stroke handicap in conjunction .therewith, was played on Saturday last. The best card returned was that of tho chib captain L. D. Hurst, with, a net 76. Other cards were:—J. T. Tucker 78. A. E. Con wav 79, H. E. Aplin 79, D. Moncur '79, Professor Brown 86 ,T. C. Williamson 89. E. IT. Liddle 80,’ Stuart Wilson 82. M. Burnett 82, S A. Wiren 83, T. V. Creese 83. J. T. Lewis S 3 , T. G. Roberts 83. In the final for the Prince of Wales Cup over 36 holes. Rev. C. V. Rooke beat Captain Conway 4 and 3: the latter was giving his opponent 14 strokes. JOHNSONVILLE CLUB.

Tlie junior championship of the Johnsonville Club, was played at the weekend. The finalists, J. J. Gibson and W. Alexander, had a close and exciting game. At the seventeenth Gibson was 1 up, and 1 to play, and Alexander, who had tlie honour, spoilt his chance of squaring matters by topping his drive, nnd his approach shot wan too heavy, with the result that the ball overran the green and found a resting place in the rough. His final effort to reach the green failed, and Gibson won the match and the championship, 2 up.
