LYALL BAY PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION
The quarterly meeting of the Lyall Bay Progressive Association was held on Wednesday evening. Dlr. A. C. Blake presided over a good attendance. It was decided to urge the City Council to proceed with the work of rounding the corner of Onepu Road and Coutts Street, to its new permanent position and level. The approved alteration at this corner was pegged out sole months ago, and members expressed dissatisfaction at the delay. On the motion of Dlr. Howitt, it was resolved: “That, in view of the inability at the trams to reach tlie end of Onepu Road recently, due to the drift sand coming over the beach wall and filling the tram rails, the City Council 'be asked to take measures to prevent H e sum! coming on to the parade, by ihe addition of a vertical wall, with the top curved seawards, placed on top of the present inclined wall, or by any other method that would prove effective.” The council is to bo reminded of the request made koine time ago for the erection of a waiting shed at the terminus. It was uecided to request the tramway department to make the tram stop on the western side ot Freyburg Street, instead of the eastern side as at preseilt. The department will be asked also to provide additional cars via the Kilbirnie tunuel between 5 p.m. and 5.45 p.m., or as an alternative “through" cars to Lyall Bay. The city engineer is to be asked to asphalt the rigi:t-of-way between Freyberg Street and Onepu Road.
A letter was received from the town clerk intimating that the council had decided to remove the trees and shrubs at the junction of Coutts Street, Queen's Drive, and Childer’s Terrace.
The Society for the Protection of Women and Children notified that it would heartily support the proposal of the association for the erection of a women’s rest room ami conveniences at the southern end of Onepu Road. Mr. E. A. li. Joiies was appointed a delegate to the Wellington Civic League Council, vice Mr. P. E. Cairns, who had resigned.
