FARMERS’ UNION CONFERENCE AT ASHBURTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Ashburton, June 19. The annual conference of the Mid-Can-terbury Farmers’ Union adopted the principle of a marketing association. It was decided to demand a revision of the taxation on heavy traffic under the Motor Vehicles Act, also to draw th© attention of the Department of Agriculture to the high prices of manures and fertilisers. The conference carried a resolution of protest against the motor-car tax, speakers in favour of the motion urging a tire tax. Mr. John Brown was reelected president.

NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW

INCREASED RECEIPTS The National Dairy Show nt Palmerston North was continued yesterday in fine weather. Judging having finished, public interest was devoted to ring events and various forms of entertainment, beside the general display. The receipts for the third day (Thursday) showed an increase of £202 on tho previous year’s figures, and for the three davs there was an increase of .£287. The milk-testing competition for school pupils was won by Alwyn Carter with 91 points, Colin Collins being second with 83, N. Lovelock third with 80. James Pendray scored 79 and Anton Hansen 78. There were fifteen entries, all from tho Palmerston North Boys’ High Sfihool. POULTRY SHOW TROPHIES. The following are the winners of the cups and trophies in the Manawatu Poultry Association’s show: — Highden Rose Bowl, fancy poultry division, including ducks: Mrs. 11. M. Wilson (Hastings). FEILDING STOCK SALE By Telegraph—Press AssociationFeilding, June 19. At the Feilding stock sale to-day there was a heavy yarding of fat sheep and a small yarding of other sheep. These were offered to a small attendance of buyers. Fat lambs were not in demand, anil most of the pens were passed. Fat ewes and wethers sold freely at up to late rates.
