At the quarterly meeting of the Wellington Drivers’ Union, a resolution was carried entering “a strong protest against the action of the AttorneyGeneral in issuing an order of deportation against Noel Lyons, against whom no offence has been proven.” In the opinion of the meeting "the action taken in this matter has been contrary to all British traditions.” The meeting further urges “that the law wiliervests the power of deportation in the hands of the Attorney-General should be repealed, and that no person sliotiK be deported until the case, has been investigated bv a Court of justice, am. the person affected afforded an opportunity of defending the charge or charges preferred against him.”
