MILK TESTS
AUCKLAND CHARGE FAILS. • By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, June 19. Mr. Poynton, S.M., dismissed a charge against the Auckland Milk Company that it sold milk that failed to stand what is known as the reductase ' test. The sample was taken from one of the company’s milkmen. For the defence it was contended that the test known as the methylene blue test was not reliable, that the regulation was uncertain and unreasonable, ami that proper precautions were not taken between the buying of the sample and application of the test. The Magistrate said the regulation undoubtedly meant milk “when purchased.” Though the milk in question would not stand the test at 10 a.m., it might have done so at 6.55 a.m., when purchased. He found that the test was satisfactory and reliable, and the regulation was not unreasonable. There was doubt whether or not the milk would have passed the test when purchased. Defendant was entitled to the benefit of the doubt, and the charge was dismissed. '
