BIRTHS, DEATHS, AND MARRIAGES DECREASES DURING 1924 During 1924, the statistics of the City Registrar of Births, Marriages, and Deaths show that in Wellington there has been a decrease under all three heads, although there have been a few more marriages which have actually taken place before the Registrar himself. , . , This year there were 2112 births as compared with 2169 last year; 960 deaths in comparison with 1030 during 1923; 1207 marriage notices as against 1240 for the preceding year. Of the former number 324 took place before the Registrar, whereas in 1923 the number was 308. The figures for tho month of December, 1923, were: —Births, 187 ; deaths, 82; marriage .notices, 137; marriages by Registrar, 21, as compared with the following for the present month this year: — ; Births, 202; deaths, 94; marriage notices, 145; marriages by Registrar, 31. The figures for the quarter ending this year, as compared with those recorded for the corresponding periods of 1923, are as follow: — 1924. —First quarter: Births, 499; deaths, 194; marriage notices, 291; marriages bv Registrar, SO. 1923.
