FLYING SPEED
LECOINTE TO TRY TO BEAT WORLD’S RECORD (Rec. June 10, 7.55 p.m.) London, June 10. Thp “Morning Post’s” Paris correspondent says the monoplane on which Saidi Lecointe will attempt on Thursday to heat the world’s air speed record weighs within 28cwt., and the wing surface is 15 square metres. The motor is of 600 horse-power, and it is expected the speed will be over 280 miles an hour. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
D’OISY’S GREAT FLIGHT COMPLETED Tokio, June 9. Lieutenant d’Oisy has arrived from Osaka. —Reuter. . , [Lieutenant Pplletier d’Oisy s task was to link up France and IndoChina, and then, after having his machine overhauled, proceed to Tokio. The flight programme was improved by the facilities afforded by the Governments uf the countries lying along the route. Britain, Siam, and Japan consented to the use of their flying grounds, and the United States placed at the aviator’s disposal the stores laid down for the use of the aviators who had started on their world tour in the reverse direction. c Oisy’s fast times has been recorded previously.)
