NEW ARRIVALS FROM HOME
LARGE CONTINGENT ON . ATHENIC A party of 412 immigrants from Great Britain arrived by 11.M.5. Athenio yesterday. The beautiful spring weather which prevailed cave them a good impression of the land of their adoption. There was an animated scene at the wharf when the new-comers were greeted by friends who had preceded them. Some of the English girls, when their feet first touched New Zealand soil, fairly skipped with joy. The officers qf the steamer had a good word to say for the exemplary behaviour of the passengers on the voyage out. The South Island quota left bv the ferry steamer last evening, and those for the North will be taken to their destinations by a special train, leaving at 2 o’clock to-day.
