OBSERVANCE OF ANZAC DAY
THE NEAREST SUNDAY SUGGESTED By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, May 12. “Anzac Day is becoming more and more of a holiday.” That was the reason advanced by employers concerned in a Conciliation Council dispute to-day for their objection against the inclusion of Anzac Day as a holiday. “A lot of people,” said Mr. W. Goss, “use Anzac Day only as a picnic day, and have departed right away from its spirit. The clay ought to bo observed by tho general public in the spirit in which it was established. An endeavour is being made to have Anzac Day observed on tho nearest Sunday and by excluding the day as a holiday from awards it will further the project of shifting Anzac Day to Sunday.”
